一位北京师范大学的学生告诉上游新闻记者，当时她在教室自习，“回过神发现教室里同学都被塞了一张传单，好像是老师自己走进教室发的传单，《社会科学概论》这门课这学期没开成，老师就自己录了28小时左右的视频，传单数量很多，而且都是彩印，感觉到了这份真诚。”有学生称赞，“总有人在名利场写诗”“学为人师，行为世范的校训精神在老师身上闪闪发光”“这才是真正想传道授业解惑的老师。”

28日，上游新闻记者联系上了陈志新副教授，不过他婉拒了采访要求，表示相关情况都由政府管理学院院方统一回应，而政府管理学院一位工作人员表示：“相关情况正在进行了解。”
多位北师大学生表示，陈老师发传单的事情，已经在北师大师生的朋友圈广泛转发。在陈教授的视频账号上，上游新闻记者看到，每一条网课视频，都标注了课程主讲内容和序号。
从3月24日开始，4天时间，陈教授一共发布了38条网课视频，27日下午还只有4000多粉丝，截至上游新闻记者发稿时止，他的账号粉丝已经超20万，一夜之间涨粉20万。

课程没开成是不是学生报名不够？在视频的评论区，陈教授解释：“是学校的教务系统没有排上自己的课，才选择直接到同学中推荐，我一定积极争取开成这门课。”
还有人向陈教授提出了建议，要分类视频，方便大家学习。陈教授也表示：“我不熟悉操作，我的等级不高，如果同学你有时间方便的话，请举例告诉我一下怎么改好。最好能发邮箱，我怕我看不到你的回复。”28日凌晨2点多，陈教授还回复了一位网友的邮件，称“B站的工作人员已经联系了自己，估计这两天就能合集”。
上游新闻记者了解到，陈教授从2023年3月开始准备《社会科学概论》通识课，不仅包括经济学、政治学、文学、哲学等方面的内容，还包括人工智能、人口学、管理学、民族学、人类学等，几乎涵盖了所有社会科学方面的内容，主要是提升学生人文科学方面的素养。
记者从北京师范大学教务部了解到，目前已建设并认定通识核心课程94门，2023年春季学期开设45门通识核心课，其中不乏名家讲课。一位北京师范大学的学生表示，去年曾经在本科生通识课《唐诗选读》课程上幸运听到文学院康震教授的课程。不过，2024年春季学期，北京师范大学向学生推荐的通识核心课程减少到了26门。对于为何减少通识核心课程，北京师范大学教务部谢绝了上游新闻记者的采访。
