微博@广州塔 还表示，广州塔在防雷方面做了大量工作，按照最高的一类防雷标准进行设计施工，安装了最先进的大气电场仪雷电预警系统，能在雷电发生20分钟前实现雷暴检测与预警。设计师在广州塔天线桅杆上安置了防雷接闪装置，并在塔身顶部设计了避雷网格，由它和塔身金属钢外筒、塔底的接地网格共同组成雷电的传导线路。一旦发生直击雷电，电流可以顺着天线桅杆传导到避雷网格，再传到地下，所以不会对塔身造成伤害。
作为气象预警，广州塔有着得天独厚的优势，周边空旷无遮挡物，安置在广州塔的气象观测系统能实时感应到风力风向、温度湿度的变化情况。在广州塔454米高度平台上更安装了一台雷电预警系统，从而实现了局地雷暴监测与预警功能。
