人民网北京4月18日电 （记者韦衍行）当地时间4月17日，国家文物局在中国驻纽约总领事馆接收美国纽约曼哈顿区检察官办公室向我国返还的38件文物艺术品。这是今年1月中美两国关于防止中国文物非法入境美国的政府间谅解备忘录有效期顺延以来，中美政府职能部门成功开展的第一起文物返还合作。

2024年3月，国家文物局获悉美国纽约曼哈顿区检察官办公室在清查一文物走私贩赃物过程中，缴获疑似中国文物艺术品共计38件。国家文物局第一时间开展核查等相关工作，与中国驻纽约总领事馆密切协作，在美方职能部门配合下，成功实现文物返还。上述文物在纽约接收后，国家文物局将适时安排文物回运工作。

经图片鉴定，专家初步判断该批文物大部分为明清时期我国藏传佛教文物，也有专家认为，个别文物年代应在元代左右。文物绝大部分来自西藏地区，涉及佛塔、佛像、法器、佛教饰物等多种佛教题材，涵盖铜、泥、象牙、木等材质，并使用了塑、绘、雕刻等多种制作手法，题材广泛，工艺多样，内容丰富，制作精美，具有较高的文物价值。

有专家指出，该批文物绝大多数保存较为完整，其中的牙雕和木雕作品在国内较少；四件壁画残片十分罕见，主体画面保存也比较完整，从风格来看，应为西藏阿里地区16世纪左右的明代壁画，疑被人盗卖而致，具有重要的历史、艺术和学术价值。

文化和旅游部副部长、国家文物局局长李群表示，中美两国再次实现文物返还合作，标志着双方在文物追索返还行动上相向而行、相互信任。中方将继续积极履行中美关于防止中国文物非法入境美国的政府间谅解备忘录，与美方建立健全被盗文物信息通报机制，为保障文物安全、促进文明交流互鉴贡献两国的智慧和力量。

In March 2024, the National Cutural Heritage Administration learned that the prosecutor's office in Manhattan, New York, seized a total of 38 pieces of suspected Chinese cultural relics and artworks in the process of checking the stolen goods of a cultural relic smuggler. The National Cutural Heritage Administration immediately carried out verification and other related work, worked closely with the Chinese Consulate General in New York, and successfully returned cultural relics with the cooperation of the functional departments of the United States. After receiving the above-mentioned cultural relics in New York, the National Cutural Heritage Administration will arrange for the return of cultural relics in due course.

Based on image identification, experts have preliminarily determined that most of the cultural relics in this batch are Tibetan Buddhist relics from the Ming and Qing dynasties in China. Some experts also believe that some of the cultural relics should date back to around the Yuan Dynasty. The vast majority of cultural relics come from Xizang, involving various Buddhist themes such as pagodas, Buddha statues, Buddhist artifacts, Buddhist ornaments, etc., covering copper, clay, ivory, wood and other materials, and using a variety of production techniques such as sculpture, painting, carving, etc., with a wide range of themes, diverse processes, rich content, exquisite production, and high cultural relics value.

Experts point out that the vast majority of these cultural relics are well preserved, with few dental and wooden carvings in China; Four pieces of mural fragments are very rare, and the main picture is relatively intact. From the perspective of style, they should be the Ming Dynasty murals in Ali, Xizang, around the 16th century, which are suspected of being stolen and sold, and have important historical, artistic and academic values.

Li Qun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and director of the National Cutural Heritage Administration, said that China and the United States have once again achieved cooperation in the return of cultural relics, which marks that the two sides are facing each other and trust each other in the recovery and return of cultural relics. China will continue to actively fulfill the intergovernmental memorandum of understanding between China and the United States on preventing illegal entry of Chinese cultural relics into the United States, establish and improve a mechanism for reporting stolen cultural relics with the United States, and contribute the wisdom and strength of both countries to ensure the safety of cultural relics and promote cultural exchange and mutual learning.
