英国牛津大学连续第八年蝉联榜首，斯坦福大学、麻省理工学院紧随其后，分别是全球第二、三名。全球前十名高校中，有三所来自英国，其余七所均来自美国。

中国香港仍然是世界顶尖大学最集中的地区之一，香港大学排名世界第35名，共有五所大学跻身世界前100名，六所大学进入世界前350名。
中国澳门取得了突破性进展，澳门大学首次跻身世界前200强，排名世界第193名。
台湾大学依然保持在世界排名前200名以内，同比上升35名，排名并列152名。中国台湾排名前十名的大学全部成功进入世界大学排名前600名。
进入世界排名前400名的中国大陆高校数量，从去年的18所大幅增加至今年的30所。前1000名大学中，中国大陆共有86所大学上榜，是入榜高校数量排名第五的国家/地区。

中国大陆高校的总体研究质量得分中位数提高了12.1分，包括引用影响力、研究实力、研究卓越和研究影响力，其中引用影响力的中位数（衡量平均研究质量的指标）提高5%。
“过去五年中，中国大陆高校在世界范围内进步最大，总平均分从2020年的35.5分上升到2024年的48.9分。”泰晤士高等教育称，中国大陆高校所取得的成绩是由众多因素共同推动的，包括大学绩效表现的提高、今年世界大学排名方法论的调整、政府对于高等教育的财政支持、高校对国际化的承诺以及研究创新。

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 released: Tsinghua University leads Asia
Britain's University of Oxford topped the list for the eighth consecutive year, followed by Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in second and third place, respectively. Three of the top 10 universities in the world are from the UK, while the remaining seven are from the US.
In the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the Chinese mainland has two universities in the top 20, seven universities in the top 100 and 13 universities in the top 200. Other mainland Chinese universities have all moved up the rankings.
Tsinghua University continues to lead Asia, ranking 12th in the world, up four places from the previous year, and also ranked first in Asia. Peking University ranked 14th, up three places from the previous year.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China and Nanjing University were ranked 43rd, 44th, 55th, 57th and 73rd, up 9, 11, 12, 17 and 22 places, respectively.
Hong Kong remains one of the regions with the highest concentration of top universities in the world, with the University of Hong Kong ranked 35th in the world, with five universities in the world's top 100 and six in the world's top 350.
In a breakthrough for the Chinese city of Macau, the University of Macau has broken into the world's top 200 for the first time, ranking 193rd in the world.
Taiwan University remained within the world's top 200, rising 35 places to joint 152nd. All of Taiwan's top 10 universities have successfully entered the top 600 of the World University Rankings.
The number of Chinese mainland universities in the world's top 400 has increased significantly from 18 last year to 30 this year. Among the top 1000 universities, 86 universities from the Chinese mainland are on the list, ranking fifth among countries/regions.

Mainland Chinese universities improved their overall median research quality score by 12.1 points, including citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research impact, with a 5 percent increase in the median citation impact (a measure of average research quality).
"Over the past five years, universities on the Chinese mainland have made the most progress in the world, with the overall average score rising from 35.5 in 2020 to 48.9 in 2024." according to Times Higher Education, the performance of Chinese mainland universities has been driven by a combination of factors, including improved university performance, methodology adjustments for this year's World University Rankings, government financial support for higher education, universities' commitment to internationalization and research innovation.
Now in its 20th year, the ranking features 1,904 universities from 108 countries and regions. With 737 participating universities, Asia is the continent with the highest participation and the region with the fastest improvement in the quality of teaching and research.
Global university rankings have been controversial in recent years. The methodology for the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings has been updated in terms of the breadth, depth, detail and assessment methodology.
This year's new methodology covers five primary indicators: teaching, research quality, research environment, international outlook and industry. There are a total of 18 carefully calibrated secondary indicators under it, five more than last year.
