易混词辨析
whether、unless、when
1. if：连词，“如果（条件）；是否（宾语从句）”（搭配 “If it rains, we stay；I don’t know if he comes”）；
2. whether：连词，“是否”（常与 “or not” 搭配，如 “Whether he comes or not”，宾语从句中可与 “if” 互换，但 “or not” 前必须用 “whether”）；
3. unless：连词，“除非（=if not）”（搭配 “Unless you work hard, you’ll fail”，=If you don’t work hard...），学生易误将 “unless” 与 “if” 等同（如 “Unless it rains, we go” 意为 “不下雨就去”，非 “下雨就去”）；
4. when：连词，“当…… 时（时间）”，与 “if”（条件）的逻辑关系不同（如 “When it rains, we stay” 表 “每次下雨都 stay”，“If it rains, we stay” 表 “如果下雨就 stay”）。

这两个词的共同意思是“假使，如果”。
1.if从句可以表示希望；而whether从句单纯表示事实。
2.if不能用在介词之后的间接疑问句中；而whether可以。
3.if不能用在“to+动词原形”的前面；而whether可以。
4.if不能引导主语、表语从句；而whether可以。
5.if作“是否”解时，多用于口语，引出宾语从句，不能直接跟or not连用。6.whether多用于书面语中，可与or或or not连用，除引出宾语从句外，还可引出主语从句、表语从句、同位语从句或与不定式连用。
